Shaping the Future; A Film Screening and Conversation with Tony Gentile ’04
The Eastern North Carolina Alumni Chapter hosted an exclusive screening of “SHAPING the FUTURE” a compelling documentary that dives deep into the life and impact of Lance Collins [wavetoolssurfboards.com/] on Southern California’s surf culture. Co-directed and produced by ECU alumnus Tony Gentile ’04, your evening will include a free screening of the film and the opportunity to converse with Tony about Collins’ legacy, as well as his own personal journey from ENC to Los Angeles.

About Tony Gentile ’04
Tony Gentile, owner of Blue Water Post [bluewaterpost.com], has spent over two decades in Los Angeles carving out a distinguished career as a producer, editor, and storyteller. A small-town kid from North Carolina, Tony never imagined his path would lead so far from home. Yet, his innate drive to explore beyond familiar horizons and immerse himself in the world of TV and film production set him on a transformative journey.
After graduating East Carolina University, Tony sought opportunities that would expand his skills and perspective. He accepted a role at UCLA Athletics supporting video operations, where he worked under the mentorship of Ken Norris for six years. This experience not only honed his technical skills but also taught him valuable lessons about professionalism and personal growth.
An awarded documentarian, Tony is passionate about storytelling that inspires and fosters community. Whether crafting visuals or perfecting sound design, his work is fueled by an unwavering dedication to connecting with audiences on a profound level.
Tony credits much of his success to the mentors and like-minded professionals who supported him along the way. “People are generally open to helping others, especially if they see your passion and dedication,” he reflects. His advice to others is simple yet profound: trust your instincts, take leaps of faith, and embrace challenges as opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
