Alexander Series performances return to intimate, community roots for 2026-27 season

The S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series (SRAPAS) will return to its roots of intimate performances and community engagement in 2026-27, the 65th season.
“We’re really excited about the things that are in store for next year,” said Christopher Ulffers, director of the ECU School of Music(SOM) and acting SRAPAS artistic director. “The best is yet to come.”
Ulffers and outgoing artistic director Alex Davis called the upcoming season “dynamic” and “extraordinary.” Davis, a familiar face at SRAPAS events, has served the series and the SOM since 2019 and will leave this summer for a new opportunity.
Most of the upcoming performances will take place at the more intimate A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall on the 10th Street side of Fletcher Music Center. Performances are vibrant and high-energy, featuring brass instruments, pops of dance and percussion. Leaders will organize student workshops with the visiting performing artists, adding high-impact opportunities toward student success, alongside dynamic performances the community can enjoy.
A brief look at the 2026-27 series follows, with those at other venues noted. Visit The Alexander Series website for full performance details and links to purchase the entire season, $180 for the public, $150 for faculty/staff, and $50 for students. Most individual performance tickets will be available starting Aug. 3. The U.S. Marine Band performance is free to all audience members, with tickets required and available starting Sept. 6.

- Collision of Rhythm, a tap dancing, beatboxing and rhythmic juggling duo — March 16
- Les Délices, an early music ensemble performing on period instruments — April 1
SRAPAS effectively began when Rudy Alexander arrived at ECU in 1962 and bundled four student-selected classical offerings into a subscription package. Since that time, the series, along with other performance opportunities, has presented more than 600 world-class artists and served nearly one million patrons, university and K-12 students.
In conjunction with Alexander’s 95th birthday in November, the Rudy Alexander Charitable Gift Fund was established to provide annual scholarships to ECU performing arts students, as well as grants to charities and nonprofits that are meaningful to Alexander. This month the Wright Auditorium Green Room was dedicated in Alexander’s name.
Parking enforcement on campus is relaxed for evening performances. General parking near Fletcher is in the B parking areas on College Hill Drive, near 10th Street. General parking near Wright Auditorium is in the Messick lot off 5th Street and Alumni Lane, or behind the Spillman Building off 5th Street and Founders Drive.
