Taggart Premieres Opera

School of Music professor of composition Mark Taggart received the world premiere of his opera, Swan’s Inlet. The work was one of three operas included this season in New York’s Center for Contemporary Opera’s Development Series.

Set on the south Atlantic coast in the mid-1980s, the opera follows the trials and aspirations of Eva, a singer who wants to leave her hometown but feels bound by her father’s wartime disability. Author, musician and composer Ann McCutchan wrote the libretto. Conducted by College of Fine Arts and Communication Dean Chris Buddo, Swan’s Inlet was premiered March 10 at the National Opera Center Recital Hall in New York.
