The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) recognized Susan Phillips at the Institute of Outdoor Theatre Conference, hosted in October by the Serenbe Playhouse of Chattahochee Hills, Georgia.
She received the Mark R. Sumner Award, an honor that recognizes an individual that has made a significant contribution to specific drama, or to the outdoor drama movement as a whole. The national award is given in the areas of playwriting, choreography, direction, dance, acting, design, theatre architecture, scholarship, musical composition, technology, innovation, producing and administration.
Phillips served as the business manager of the Institute of Outdoor Theatre as it transitioned from UNC-Chapel Hill to ECU, and then to SETC management last summer. Phillips has more than 20 years of experience in entertainment management, including service to Turner Home Entertainment and Children’s Television Workshop (aka Sesame Street). At ECU, Phillips serves the S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series.
